From the Principal's Desk

It gives me an immense pleasure and pride to announce the launch of our school’s website which mark a significant milestone in our journey of academic excellence and community engagement. As we begin on this incredible journey it is important to reflect on the rich history that has shaped our beloved institution. Nestled in the heart of Umsning Village, Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School is not just an institution but it is a vibrant community which celebrates diversity and where learning transcends all boundaries. Established in the year 1962 with just a handful of eager learners, our school has persevered through the years, evolving and growing in both size and stature. From its humble beginning, our school has consistently upheld a tradition of excellence in education as well as nurturing young minds the love for learning.

 In 1964, a pivotal moment arrived as our school transitioned to a Class X High School and in 1985 the school has been under the deficit system, paving the way for opportunities and greater academic achievement.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit was also formed at our school in 2001.Over two decades, our NCC unit has been a beacon of discipline, leadership and service to the school.

Fast forward to 2015 another significant milestone was reached as our school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School at Pitirim Campus with a dedicated faculty committed to the success and all round development of the students.

In 2022, our school expanded with the establishment of a new campus at Ritiang. The founding members of the Risoh school being visionary leaders relinquished control and management to Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School on the 27Th October,2022.On its anniversary ,the foundation stone was laid on the 27TH October,2024 by the Hon’ble Adviser to the Government and Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya as well as Donor’s member of the school Dr.D.D.Lapang.

The year 2023 brought about exciting development as our school introduced vocational subjects like Information Technology (I.T) and Electronics, equipping our students with valuable skills, and preparing them for success in an ever changing world.

Achievements and Excellence are what the school is proud of,but can never be possible without the dedication, sense of duty and purpose that prevails and had prevailed among the school staffs ,be it the teachers and Non-Teaching staffs. Each one of them over the years have given their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts that has made Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School  “Unique” in everyway .
