HISTORY OF NEHRU MEMORIAL HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, UMSNING
Initial discussions on education started between (Late) Harding Shadap, Headman Rtiang village and Mr. D.D. Laloo was initiated, the year was 2002 subsequently a meeting was called for all the Rangbah Shnongs of the area, the response was positive where education was discussed on the realities of the area. The absence of an English School and the dropout rates was analyzed and found to be very disappointing. To address this an initiative of setting up an English Nursery School at Rtiang Village was the first step to be conceived.
On the year 2003 (Late) Mr. P.R. Kyndiah, Hon’ble Member of Parliament financed the construction of a community at Rtiang Village through the initiative of Mr. D. D. Laloo, on completion of the community hall structure opportunities to set up of the English Nursery School became a reality. The community hall was inaugurated on the year 2005 and Risoh English Nursery School was established and functional from the year 2006. The school grew to Upper Primary status and additional infrastructure was created to meet the growing needs. As the demand for upgrading the school was a great pressure a new property was identified, with the help of the Dorbar Shnong and investment from Mr. D.D. Laloo the present location of the school was acquired.
The year 2012 was a landmark as the school shifted to its own premises, by 2022 the school has grown upto Class IX (Nine) and arrived at a crossroad as the thought of perpetuity existence hit the management very hard. Alliances with the Rtiang Dorbar Shnong, Rtiang Presbyterian Church and private schools was attempted, eventually with prayer and supplications the path led to Nehru Trust Fund School at Umsning. The handing over to Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School Umsning was done at the later part of 2022.
In consensus with the two schools management, the Risoh English School was handover to The Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School, Umsning on the 27th of October, 2022 at Rtiang . In addition, the name of Risoh English School was renamed and henceforth shall be known as, Nehru Memorial Secondary School, Rtiang Campus.
The inauguration of The Nehru Memorial Secondary School, Rtiang Campus, was held on the 27th October 2023, by Shri. Charles Marngar, MDC Mawhati Constituency, in the presence of Smt. Paidolyne L. Nonglait, DSEO Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya, Shri. Raja Brahma, Block Development Officer, Umsning C&RD Block.
